Overview
Digital Media Editors create and format content and collaborate in all stages of the curriculum design process for instruction in 86 different languages at NFATC under the Directorate of Language Studies.
• Start Date: 8/17/2026
• End Date: 8/15/2027 (with the possibility of extension)
• Rate: $50-$56/hour, depending on experience
• Full-time (40 hours per week, 8 hours per day / Monday-Friday)
• 100% in-person presence required at the NFATC campus in Arlington, VA

Responsibilities
- • Perform assigned tasks or execute single handedly the creation of digital content based around the current language curriculum including but not limited to the readability, structure, organization, style, and formatting of all digital content.
- • Collaborate in the creation and formatting of language content in authorized State Department Learning Management Systems to improve the online usage of various language learning tools.
- • Collaborate in all stages of the Curriculum Design Process in helping create and format the online environment for the language curriculum.
- • Collaborate in providing training to all staff on using educational technology and other tools in creating and maintaining language curriculum.
- • Adhere to all copyright guidelines and restrictions and track compliance for assigned development projects.
- • Collaborate to establish processes and deadlines for the editing workflow.
- • Provide regular status updates on progress and briefings on request for the content creators and others regarding progress, standards, or issues for discussion.
Qualifications
- Candidates must have A COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE as follows:
- • Master’s or Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in Graphic Design, Educational Technology, Instructional Design, Information Technology, Curriculum & Instruction, Foreign Language Education, Applied Linguistics, Media Production, Digital Media, or Web Design PLUS 1 year of professional experience in digital instructional content creation
- OR
- • Bachelor’s degree in the fields listed above PLUS 2 years of professional experience in digital instructional content creation.
- OR
- • Bachelor’s degree in an unrelated field PLUS 3 years of professional experience in digital instructional content creation.
- OR
- • Associate’s degree or High School Diploma PLUS 5 years of professional experience in digital instructional content creation.
- Professional Certification Substitution: An industry-recognized professional certificate may substitute for up to one year of the required education or experience if demonstrably relevant to the position’s duties.
- Eligible certifications include: Adobe Certified Professional / Adobe Certified Expert (ACE); Certified Professional in Talent Development; Avid Certified Professional; Articulate Storyline Certification; ATD Instructional Design Certificate.
- Candidates must also possess the following TECHNICAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- • Digital Content Creation: Hands-on experience creating digital training materials including course content, teaching manuals, student guides, ebooks, and interactive media (video, audio, animation, and digital text).
- • Design Applications: Proficiency using Office and Graphic Design applications, specifically Articulate, Adobe Premiere Pro, Illustrator, Photoshop, and other Adobe Creative Cloud apps.
- • Computer & Collaboration Skills: Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and professional familiarity with online meeting software (Zoom, Skype, MS Teams, and Webex).
Ideal Candidate
Ideal candidates will also have the following PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience in desktop publishing graphic design valued.
• One (1) year of experience training instructors in using digital training techniques.
• Project management experience valued.
• Experience in Google for Education.
• Knowledge of Instruction Design Theory and Methods.
• Expertise with MS Office and Graphic Design (Adobe Premier, Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and other Adobe Creative Cloud apps.)
