Polish Language Instructor

Overview

Global Language Center is currently seeking candidates to teach Polish to adult learners at the National Foreign Affairs Training Center (NFATC) in Arlington, Virginia. Classes will be conducted 100% in person. Teaching materials will be provided.

Compensation
$49-$51/hour, depending on experience.

Location
Candidates should be located in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia region.

Responsibilities

  • • Plan and/or conduct one-on-one and/or small group Polish language classes.
  • • Use a variety of language teaching methodologies and techniques, stressing speaking, listening comprehension, and reading skills.
  • • Use provided curriculum materials to teach classes.
  • • Provide students with encouragement and constructive feedback.
  • • Apply classroom management techniques to provide a respectful, student-centered environment conducive to learning.
  • • Conduct informal or formal progress assessments to evaluate student progress.
  • • Incorporate the use of instructional technology into the program as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • • Educated native or near-native speaker of Polish possessing the cultural background of Poland/the geographical region.
  • • A minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching Polish to adult learners in a classroom setting.
  • • A minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching foreign language with proficiency-based or task-based curricula.
  • • A minimum of one (1) year of experience administering proficiency-based assessments (e.g., DLPT, ACTFL OPI, ILR, etc.)
  • • BA/BS, MA/MS, or Ph.D., or foreign equivalent degree(s) in any field.
  • • A minimum English proficiency level of a 2:2 on the ILR proficiency scale (Limited Working Proficiency).
  • • Basic computer skills.

• Developing foreign language instructional materials and/or curricula.
• Experience using a Learning Management System as an instructor or administrator.
• Experience teaching with a communicative approach.
• Experience incorporating a range of educational technology in teaching.
• Experience teaching blending learning activities.
• Experience integrating social media applications for educational purposes.
• Experience teaching with task-based learning materials.
• Experience teaching with vocabulary-based language learning materials
• Experience delivering training targeted to needs of diplomatic community.
