Overview
Global Language Center (GLC) is a woman-owned small business providing professional language and services to the U.S. government, commercial, and individual clients worldwide. Founded in 1996, GLC has grown as a result of our excellent performance, care of employees, and in-depth language expertise. We offer instruction in over 70 languages, cultural awareness training, translation, interpretation, curriculum design, digital media editing, evaluation, project management, and administrative support services.
GLC is currently seeking candidates to teach French at all levels to commercial/private clients in one-on-one or small group contexts. Classes may be conducted virtually or in person, depending on client needs. In most cases, teaching materials will be provided.
Compensation: $25-$45/hour, depending on experience.
Location: Candidates must be located in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia region.
Responsibilities
- • Plan and/or conduct one-on-one and/or small group language classes, both in person and remotely.
- • Use a wide variety of language teaching methodologies and techniques, stressing speaking, listening comprehension, and reading skills.
- • Use established curriculum materials to teach classes.
- • Provide students with encouragement and constructive feedback.
- • Apply classroom management techniques to provide a respectful, student-centered environment conducive to learning.
- • Conduct informal or formal progress assessments and/or administer weekly quizzes and assessments to evaluate student progress.
- • Incorporate the use of instructional technology into the program as appropriate.
- • As needed, maintain an online classroom environment.
Qualifications
- • A minimum of one (1) year of experience teaching French to adult learners in a classroom setting.
- • BA/BS, MA/MS, or Ph.D., or foreign equivalent degree(s) in any field.
- • Native speaker of French.
- • A minimum English proficiency level of a 2:2 on the ILR proficiency scale (Limited Working Proficiency).
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will fulfill all responsibilities and qualifications listed above and will also have experience teaching with a communicative approach, teaching blended learning activities, and teaching with task- and vocabulary-based learning materials. The ideal candidate will also be comfortable incorporating a range of educational technologies and will have experience administering proficiency-based assessments.
