Overview
The Teaching Assistant supports course delivery duties to include preparing course materials administratively (i.e., photocopying, posting article links to FSiLearn, etc.); preparing name tents and door signs; classroom preparation and clean up; audio-visual requests; GSO requests; and coordination with program analysts on logistical arrangements (bus, field trips).

WORK LOCATION: National Foreign Affairs Training Center in Arlington, Virginia
Responsibilities
- • Reserves rooms for all courses; takes initiative to change room reservations to fit the needs of the course/students; negotiates room needs with other program offices, updates course chair on any changes.
- • Tracks registration/enrollment data daily as courses draw near; prepares enrollment reports and sends them to course coordinators and program chair; contacts students, as needed, to verify correct enrollment.
- • Schedules speakers and confirms routine speakers as needed; notifies course chair of any changes in speakers’ schedules and proposes schedule modifications as necessary.
- • Researches and recommends new speakers or replacement speakers.
- • Ensures all guests and speakers are on the visitor’s list and escorted to the appropriate classroom if necessary.
- • Liaises with students, instructors, and speakers, during class to provide guidance and support to the chairs and coordinators, to include in-class support; advises students on proper course enrollment, FSI policies, required course materials, or supplemental learning materials needed.
- • Tracks and assigns Zoom for Government accounts and supports virtual classes as required.
- PROGRAM SUPPORT DUTIES
- • Prepares, disseminates, and collects surveys, evaluations, and needs assessment questionnaires.
- • Sets up and maintains various program websites including FSiLearn.
- • Collects data related to evaluations, needs assessments, or other similar activities.
- • Notifies other FSI offices (Registrar; Acquisition, Budget) of policy changes or new procedures within a component; prepares written guidance on new or updated programs or SOPs for the offices. Substantive Content Creation (in coordination with course chair).
- • Researches potential course topics.
- • Prepares professional materials to include slides and presentations, literature reviews, briefing papers, and analysis.
- • Proficiency with research software, ProQuest databases, and reference materials, in order to research and produce course materials.
- • Contributes substantively to the design, development, and evaluation of courses, creates and implements polling applications, such as Survey Monkey and/or Qualtrics, analyzing data, and drafting reports on the findings.
- • Facilitates classroom activities as appropriate, runs short course sections based on expertise, or serves as class facilitator when chair is temporarily unavailable.
- • Attends local events to increase program-related knowledge to support chair and program development.
- • Event coordination (i.e., Global Issues speaker series) – assists with the planning, logistics, and delivery of special events. These may include roundtables, panels, or exercises held offsite but led by our staff.
- • Assists in drafting briefing books or special, one-time reports for external offices; researches information for these reports; format and edit these reports.
- • Writes and drafts payment at post cables, Department Notices, and Weekly Highlights for components.
- • Event planning may include schedule planning, research, logistics (Audio/Visual and room set-up), and outreach efforts.

- Secret clearance.
